As a visual artist from Brazil, born in the strange modernist capital (Brasilia), I never seemed to stay long in any one place. After attending college in Brazil and getting my BA in fine arts, I was awarded a full scholarship from my government to study anywhere in the world. I chose to get my MFA at Hunter, because I felt at home in NY. My work has been evolving into more intimate autobiographical pieces ever since then. Many of the materials and techniques I use remain the same; paper, watercolor, pen & ink, color pencils, etching, photography and collage. Most of my work is small, conveniently so with all the moving around… The inspiration for my work comes mostly from my own stories, relationships, dreams, and everyday life. I often find myself drawn to Dada and French Surrealists, Art Noveau, and the works of various artists such as Frida Kahlo, Shirin Neshat, Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Hans Bellmer, and Claude Cahun.
